Due to begin construction in 2015, the terminal will have 30,000 cu m of storage capacity, and has permission to handle up to 500,000 tonnes of LNG every year.
Developed in co-operation with harbour infrastructure administrator Gävle Hamn, the project is part of a major ramping-up of LNG infrastructure in the country, and will enable LNG-fuelled vessels to conduct bunkering operations in the Gävle Harbour.
the terminal is one of a number of LNG bunkering projects to have sprung up in northern Europe, including counterparts in Gothenburg, Denmark, Antwerp, Portsmouth and Rotterdam, to serve shipping with LNG as a fuel ahead of the Baltic and North Sea EU 0.1% Sulphur Directive, which enters force in 2015.
