Lack of finance and lower fuel prices are discouraging companies from environmental and energy saving retrofits of existing ships according to engine maker MAN.

MAN Diesel & Turbo and China Classification Society (CCS) are furthering their collaboration with a new technical cooperation agreement signed at Marintec China 2015.

China Classification Society has granted the world's first IMO Tier III approval in principle to MAN’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system for all its entire medium-speed engines.

"There is no doubt that the order backlog is melting out and evaporating," was the grim opening line from Ole Groene, svp at MAN Diesel and Turbo, given against a backdrop of charts showing deliveries of low speed engines and ships, both peaking between 2010 and 2012, before trailing off up to today and into the future forecasts.
