Stena Line is converting 240m-long ferry Stena Germanica to run on methanol at a cost of EUR22m ($27.5m), the first such conversion to be undertaken.

 

Sweden’s Stena Group and Angolan public energy company Sonangol jointly opened the Centro De Formação Maritima De Angola (CFMA) maritime training school on a greenfield site on the Angolan coast near Sumbe, 360 km south of Luanda, at end-August.

The Trident Alliance, an industry body formed to lobby port state control authorities for tougher enforcement of the January 2015 sulphur regulations, has been formally launched with 11 members named.

 

While it was some topical references to the EU and the looming referendum on Scottish independence that drew the headlines, the president’s speech at the UK Chamber of Shipping’s annual dinner this week formed a coherent manifesto about the need for the UK shipping industry – and by extension its global counterparts - to adopt a more proactive stance in political debate.
