The 7,999 dwt, IMO Type II tankers will be built at Scheepswerf Ferus Smit with delivery from Q4 2018 and onwards. The vessels will be dual fuel and capable of running on LNG at clients request the company said.
Dual fuel vessels are not new the parent company Erik Thun which ordered the world’s first dry cargo vessels to use LNG as fuel.
Similar in size to existing tankers in Thun’s fleet the newbuildings will gradually replace older vessels.
” We always strive to meet our customers’ various demands with sustainable solutions. With this order we intend to further extend that offer by building a series of identical sister ships where some uses LNG as a fuel and others don´t,” said Johan Källsson, deputy md of Erik Thun.
No financial details of the order were released.
