Tsakos targeted in Athens bomb attack

Tsakos targeted in Athens bomb attack
Athens: An improvised bomb, almost certainly targeting prominent shipowner Nikos Tsakos, has been set off outside his home in central Athens.

The blast, which occurred at 08-30 hrs  local time, caused shattered windows and damaged brickwork but no-one was hurt, thanks to an anonymous tipoff to a local newspaper twenty minutes earlier, and the prompt evacuation that followed, according to reports by local police.

Tsakos himself was away from home, and his on-duty guard escaped unscathed. As yet, nobody has taken responsibility for the bomb, which had been left in a black backpack outside the property’s entrance.

The blast forms part of a spate of small IED attacks on senior influential figures in Greece, as well as the bombing of an Athenian shopping centre by anarchists in January.
