Two dead in Greece boxship smash
Piraeus: Two seafarers have drowned and a further eight are missing after boxship Consouth collided with general cargo vessel Pirireis, 75nm off Sapienza.

The unharmed 16-man Consouth crew recovered two drowned seafarers from the sunken Pirireis’ 17-man crew, leaving eight still missing.

The reason for the collision is as yet unknown, the authorities said. "The weather was fine, the sea was calm," Dimitris Kafantaris, mayor of the nearby coastal town of Pylos, told state-run TV Net. "Authorities are also checking to see if there was any pollution from the sinking."

The Pirireis was transporting fertiliser from Algeria to Ukraine.
