With shipping's move into digitalisation the problem is exacerbated. Why would an up and coming young IT executive want to go and work for a staid, boring shipping company when they could work for Google, Facebook or Amazon?
Wilhelmsen Group took an innovative approach to this problem when it came to attracting digital trainees. The video below for the digital trainee posts is far more attention grabbing than the average job advertisement. It was apparently successful as we understand the posts have been filled. But it also gives an idea of how shipping companies can present themselves to make job opportunities they offer look more attractive in the digital age.
