Hamburg’s 66th Eisbein dances to samba beat
The 66th annual Eisbein Dinner organised last week by the Hamburg Shipbrokers´ Association (VHSS ) cemented its claim to be the world’s largest maritime social event when it drew almost 5,000 people from the industry - including brokers, bankers, owners, agents and terminal operators – to Hamburg on 7 November.

Brazil was this year´s partner country, represented by Waldemar Rocha Junior, president of the Brazilian ship agents´ association FENAMAR.

Trade links between Hamburg and Brazil go back to 1855 when a shipping line dedicated to the trade was formed alter taken over by Hamburg Süd. Today the South American country remains an important client for the Port of Hamburg, providing nearly 20,000 teu of transhipment volumes annually with Brazil and representing its fourth largest overseas customer, after China, Russia and the US.

Pictured is chairman of the VHSS (Vereinigung Hamburger Schiffsmakler und Schiffsagenten) Christian Koopmann (second from left), who together with special guest Frank Horch, Senator of Economics, Mobility and Innovation, is welcoming the 150,000th guest in the Eisbein Dinner’s history, Svenja Thiede.
