MOL said in a press release that early on the morning of December 16 the Esshu Maru, while underway in the North Pacific toward Pyeongtaek, South Korea, via the Panama Canal, received a request for rescue assistance from the United States Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.
The vessel rushed to the scene and at 11:30am on the same day, she safely rescued a crewmember from the wrecked fishing boat at position 12 59’N, 113 17’W.
The vessel then sailed to the nearest port and at 7:22am on December 22, handed over the survivor to the United States Coast Guard off Oahu, Hawaii.
