Much like the Lion City’s shipping sector the SSA annual dinner just keeps getting bigger with a record 2,080 people turning out on Friday night. This beats the previous record of around 2,000 that showed up for the 25th anniversary dinner in 2010.
In his speech to the dinner SSA president Patrick Phoon said: “I am very heartened by the strong support of you, my members, at our gala dinner year after year. It is a pleasure to note that we have over 2,000 people gathered here tonight, which I understand has even surpassed our record turnout in 2010 when we celebrated our 25th anniversary at this same venue!”
On a more serious note Phoon also outlined moves to boost Singapore's marine insurance and finance sectors.
The large turnout for the dinner is also reflected in SSA’s membership, which now stands at 478 members, with 34 companies joining so far this year.
Looking ahead to next year SSA will celebrate its 30th birthday and is promising an even bigger dinner on 25 September 2015 with 240 tables, or roughly 2,400 guests.
