ASRY appoints acting chief executive

MAG (002)
Magdy Sharkawy has been named as acting chief executive of shipyard ASRY as current head Andy Shaw moves into an advisory role.

Currently ASRY Ship Repair general manager Sharkawy has spent some 38 years with the Bahrain shipyard.

HE Shaikh Daij bin Salman Al Khalifa, chairman of ASRY commented: “Andy re-joined ASRY almost three years ago with the mission to secure its future, and bring stabilisation to ASRY as it experienced difficult market conditions and internal challenges. Since then he has initiated a comprehensive organisational restructuring, as well as an operational overhaul that has reduced overhead costs.”

The shipyard’s customer retention level has increased to over 90% under Shaw’s leadership.

“His input in an advisory role will ensure continuity as Magdy Sharkawy moves the company forward as acting chief executive,” the chairman added.
