Damen Sharjah to build jack-up pontoon for Dubai diving firm
Dubai-based Aqua Diving Services (ADS) has contracted Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) to build a shallow draught, self-propelled jack-up pontoon for operation in the Arabian Gulf.

Aqua Rise III has been specifically designed by ADS for Middle East operations and will include accommodation for up to 128 personnel with 350 sq mtrs of deck space and two cranes, rated at 75 and 15 tonnes respectively.

The vessel, due for delivery in early 2018, will also be fitted with a helideck and life boats and deployed in support of the offshore oil and gas sector.

Aqua Diving Services was established in the UAE in 1975 and today delivers a wide range of sub-sea services. The company already owns and operates two other jack-up pontoons.

Pascal Slingerland, Damen Shipyards Group’s Middle East sales manager, said the contract advanced Damen’s strategy of becoming more active in the lift-boat market and to build vessels outside of its usual portfolio.

“This is a further sign that local clients value Damen’s strong track record and reputation as a shipbuilder delivering superior quality at the right price,” Slingerland said.

Damen Shipyards Group operates 32 shipbuilding and repair yards employing 9,000 people worldwide. It builds tugs, workboats, naval and patrol vessels, high speed craft, cargo vessels, dredgers, vessels for the offshore industry, ferries, pontoons and superyachts.

In addition to ship design and shipbuilding, Damen Ship Repair & Conversion has a worldwide network of 15 repair and conversion yards with dry docks ranging up to 420 x 80 mtrs.
