Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, today unveiled the agenda and speaker line-up for the inaugural “UAE Maritime Leaders Seminar” on 30 October.

To be hosted at The Address Hotel, Dubai and moderated by Capt. Michael Elwert, group ceo of the Elektrans Group, the seminar will set the tone as industry heavyweights share shipping’s latest insights and innovations with delegates from around the globe from 30 October – 2 November.

The UAE Maritime Leaders Seminar will explore “smart navigation” including effective communication, the development of the “human Factor” and the role of it is playing in shaping the future of the maritime sector.

Confirmed speakers include Dr Volker Bertram from DNV GL – Maritime; Oscar Levander, vp of Rolls Royce’s innovation department; and Frank Coles, president of Transas. A senior researcher from Lloyd's Register will present insight from the class society’s “Global Marine Technology Trends 2030” report in the final session.

The seminar, like the entire week which is underpinned by a smart shipping theme, aims to consolidate communication channels between “global maritime leaders, various maritime experts operating in the country” and “especially the young maritime workforce assigned across various administrative levels in the country's ports and facilities and university and college students interested in the local maritime sector”.

“The UAE Maritime Leaders Seminar complements the leading role played by the UAE in terms of fostering innovation, creativity and excellence within the maritime sector at the regional and international levels,” DMCA executive director Amer Ali said.

“It is not surprising that Dubai will host such an interactive conference that offers a perfect opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in smart maritime navigation which has emerged as an important pillar for developing the maritime sector to keep pace with the technological developments and rapid changes of the 21st century.

“We look forward to making this symposium successful by featuring all new aspects during Dubai Maritime Week 2016 which reinforce the strong march towards leadership and excellence pursued by Dubai in organizing the world's leading maritime events to enhance UAE’s reputation as one of the world’s most important and competitive maritime hubs.”
