Attended by some 35 maritime companies and bodies, the workshop formed part of a wider UAE Innovation Week held to mark President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s decalaration of 2015 as the “Year of Innovation”.
“The encouragement of innovation is embedded among our strategic priorities, arising from our belief in the importance of establishing solid foundations for ensuring a secure, sustainable and integrated maritime sector in line with the objectives of Dubai’s maritime Vision 2030,” said Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp and president of DMCA.
Bin Sulayem also expressed his satisfaction with proceedings of the workshop, which he said placed particular focus on creating new innovative strategies to enhance maritime tourism and develop the capabilities of ports in order to help grow the entire local maritime sector.
The inaugural Dubai Maritime Innovation Award will be presented at the Dubai Maritime Summit place during next year’s Dubai Maritime Week, coinciding with the biennial Seatrade Maritime Middle East event taking place 31 October to 2 November 2016.
