Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Abu Dhabi Ports have opened a new container freight station (CFS) to reduce trucking within the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD).

The new CFS located close to EGA’s Al Taweelah site will be used to load metal into containers for transfer on board ships.

Last year EGA shipped 600,000 tonnes of aluminium through Khalifa Port require some 17,000 truck movements. The new facility will result in a reduction in annual trucking by 290,000 km both improving efficiency and environmental performance. It is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 2,000 tonnes a year.

Abdulla Kalban, EGA’s md and ceo, said: “We are always looking for ways to improve our efficiency, saving costs and protecting the environment. Relatively small changes like this can have a big impact when they are magnified by the scale of EGA’s business.”

EGA’s aluminium is the biggest made-in-the-UAE export after oil and gas.
