IMarEST technical meeting highlights mass flow meters
The IMarEST UAE Branch’s first technical meeting recently discussed the challenges of measuring the quantity and quality of bunkers delivered and the use of mass flow meters.

Keynote speaker Stephan Natter, head of department solutions development for Endress+Hauser, Switzerland explained that traditional quantity measurement via tank gauging full uncertainty due to error-prone volume to mass calculation and unaccounted air content caused by tank stripping and the “cappuccino effect”.

He said using Coriolis mass measurement eliminates problems with traditional measurements and ensures maximum transparency during the bunker procedure. The result is accurate and indisputable quantities of bunkers are delivered.

A veteran Singaporean mariner in the audience highlighted that the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore assures the quality of supplies and services to all parties within the bunker supply chain as well as the effective, safe and secure bunker delivery operations in Singapore waters.

The use of mass flow meters in bunkering operations in Singapore waters will be mandatory from 2017.
