Nakilat transitions second LNG carrier to in-house management from oil major Shell
Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) has assumed full ship management and operations of a second Q-Max LNG carrier from Shell Trading and Shipping Company (STASCo) as part of planned and phased transition of 25 vessels.

The 266,476 cu m capacity Mekaines follows in the wake of sister-ship Mozah which was taken into in-house management by Nakilat Shipping Qatar Ltd (NSQL) last week.

Both vessels are wholly-owned by Nakilat and chartered by Qatargas and bring to 10 the total number of vessels managed by NSQL - six LNG and four LPG carriers.

Nakilat announced 19 October that it would being the process of bringing the management of its LNG carriers -  14 Q-Max and 11 Q-Flex LNG carriers - in-house via wholly-owned subsidiary NSQL from the oil major.

Mekaines was built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries and has been in service since its delivery in 2009. Mozah has completed 55 voyages, covering almost 700,000 nautical miles, since it was delivered in July 2008.

Nakilat is the shipping arm of Qatar’s gas industry and its LNG fleet is the largest in the world, comprising 63 vessels. It also operates the ship repair and construction facilities at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Ras Laffan Industrial City via two strategic joint ventures with N-KOM and NDSQ.
