ODC completes major VLCC conversion

ODC completes major VLCC conversion
Duqm’s Oman Drydock Company has announced the completion of the conversion of Greek-owned tanker Olympic Luck from an oil-bulk-ore carrier to a VLCC.

"This was the first major conversion job we have undertaken and is a terrific showcase for the world- class infrastructure, facilities and workforce we have," said ODC chairman Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Hinai.

"The vessel weighs more than 319,000 tonnes and is close to 314m in length. More than 1,000 men worked on the job which involved 3,000 tonnes of steelwork and was completed in around 80 days.”

Dimitris Patrikios, gm of the vessel’s owner, Springfield Shipping Co., said ODC's ability to deliver the highly complex conversion project could lead to further work for the yard.

“This was a unique project which helped to show the professional expertise of ODC. It was the first time ODC has taken on a project of this scale. Our decision to award the contract was based on ODC's promise to complete the project with high quality."

As well as the tanker market, ODC is targeting growth in the LNG and LPG carrier, containership, offshore and ro-ro sectors.
