The terminal, TC2, is due to open in 2016 with 35 hectares of yard along 1,100 m of quay equipped with electric rubber gantry cranes and ship to shore gantry cranes. The 21 year concession deal calls for investments totalling $590m.
Already one of the busiest box ports in West Africa, with a throughput of 600,000 teu, Abidjan's profile as a regional hub for West Africa will be enhanced as a depth of 16m will enable TC2 to handle ships up to 8,000 teu.
"This new terminal project will lift the infrastructure of Abidjan, for the benefit of the country and its population. We look forward to work towards developing the project together with the Port Authority" said Peder Sondergaard, ceo of Africa and Middle East Region for APM Terminals.
The latest project brings the total number of terminal projects at APM Terminals to 18 across five continents.
