Sanmar bags seven-vessel deal for Jordan
Turkish shipyard Sanmar has won a contract to build seven vessels for Jordan's Aqaba Port Marine Services Company (APMSCO).

A contract signing took place at Sanmar's HQ in Tuzla, where keel laying ceremonies were also held for the four 80-tonne bollard pull tugs, two twin screw line handling tugs and single pilot boat.

All six of the tugs are of Robert Allan designs, and the four 80-tonne bollard pull RAstar 2800 design vessels have specific upgrades to increase the accommodation area and enable them to operate at LNG terminals in a Zone 2 LNG environment.

APMSCO is a holding company jointly owned by Aqaba Development Corporation and Lamnalco Jordan, and Lamnalco Jordan is a joint venture comprising Jordan National Shipping Lines and Smit Lamnalco.

Sanmar's project director Ali Gürün commented: "This was a much coveted contract and we are particularly pleased to have won it. By employing the world's leading designers in their fields and ensuring best construction practice, we are able to offer a top quality products. This order follows the contract to build five vessels for Smit Lamnalco Australia, bringing the total to 12 for this customer."

APMSCO recently secured a 10-year contract with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to provide of marine services for the Jordan LNG project. The LNG carriers and FSRU involved in the project are expected to start operations in April 2015.
