Somali seafarer hostages moved to coastline

Somali seafarer hostages moved to coastline
Pirate-controlled Naham 3, a fishing vessel thought to contain hostages from the sunken Albedo, has been moored at a Somali Beach in the Galmudug region.

A flyover by the EU Naval Force found the vessel at anchorage very close to the beach, with a photo depicting a rowing boat or skiff some way up the beach (above).

Naham 3 was first hijacked in November 2010, and had up until recently been tethered to the captured Albedo, which sank on July 7. Since that time, Naham 3 was either sailing up and down the coast or anchored in shallow water.

Previous aerial photographs showed Somali Pirates on deck pointing their rifles at the helicopter.

It is believed that the hostage crew from the Albedo have been transferred to Naham 3, though this has not been confirmed by EUNavfor.

“It is understood that negotiations are on-going between a hostage support programme and the pirates to try and secure the safe release of the hostages,” a statement on the EUNavFor website read. “The whereabouts of the hostages cannot be verified by EU Naval Force at this time.”
