Al Nuaimi said the maritime sector accounts for just over 5% of the national economy and the aim is for its contribution to grow to 25%. He added that it would not be an easy task, but it would be achievable by focusing on trade based on logistics, competitive legislation, sustainability and the latest technology.

The minister said some AED60bn ($16bn) was being spent on improving the country’s maritime sector in the run up to Expo 2020, and so achieving the 25% target after 2020 was “logical”.
