The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) key Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting at the end of March has been postponed to a yet to be determined date.

The IMO said it had taken the decision to postpone some meetings due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak based on: “Taking into account the rapid increase of cases worldwide and the continuing difficulties for some delegates from IMO Member States travelling from abroad to attend IMO meetings”.

The 75th session of the MEPC from 30 March – 3 April makes decisions on the IMO’s important plans related on emissions and greenhouse gas reductions. The rescheduled date for the meeting is to be confirmed.

The 7th meeting of the Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships, scheduled to take place from 23 to 27 March 2020; and the 33rd meeting of the E&T Group (IMSBC), scheduled to take place from 23 to 27 March 2020.

The IMO closed its headquarters in London to staff and visitors on 12 and 13 March following the declaration of the coronavirus as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on Wednesday.
