MacGregor reports that it has secured a contract to supply a monopole installation system for the OHT offshore wind foundation installation vessel Alfa Lift.

The order is the largest single vessel contract secured to date by  MacGregor, part of Cargotec, and includes the engineering, procurement and construction of the monopile lifting, skidding and transfer system.

Alfa Lift is being built by the China Merchants Heavy Industry shipyard in Jiangsu and will be the world’s largest custom-built offshore wind foundation installation vessel upon delivery, scheduled during 2021.

Together with Kongsberg Marine, MacGregor is also developing an integrated control solution that will interface Alfa Lift’s motion-compensated gripper frame with the vessel’s dynamic positioning and control system, thereby resulting in a more productive and precise installation method for all monopile ranges.

“MacGregor has invested in applying its vast knowledge of offshore technology into enabling the progression of renewable energy,” says company president Michel van Roozendaal, “with the OHT Alfa Lift  being an excellent example of where these advanced technologies can be put to work” in the vessel’s “innovative monopile installation solution.”
