One dead, one missing in tugboat sinking
A search and rescue operation is underway after a tugboat sank in Singapore port waters on 4 September.
The tugboat Oshio with two crew onboard sank in the eastern anchorage within Singapore port limits at 14:15 hrs on 4 September.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it was coordinating a search and rescue operation with the Police Coast Guard (PCG) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force for a missing crew from a tugboat.
One crew member, 39, was rescued by the PCG, however later died in hospital. A second crew member remains missing.
The circumstances of the sinking of the tugboat Oshio are unclear, and there were no reports of any other vessels being involved.
“MPA has activated salvage divers to confirm the location of the sunken tug for salvage operations and is issuing navigational broadcasts for vessels to keep clear of the area,” MPA said.
No oil pollution was reported as a result of the incident.
