Even as preparations for the 2020 global sulphur cap are still underway, the marine industry is already moving on to tomorrow’s environmental compliance challenges. For example, IMO recently adopted an ambitious strategy to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from shipping in order to meet the targets of the Paris climate change agreement. While an important goal, it is one that will profoundly impact vessels, and especially the fuel line, for decades to come.

In a new post on the Fuel Line Blog, Dr. Markus Hoffmann, a Global Application Manager and marine fuels expert at Alfa Laval, examines how the IMO strategy will impact the future marine fuels market. He also takes a look at potential solutions that are emerging to tackle climate change at sea: from new and alternative fuels to Alfa Laval’s own research and development in this area.
