Podcast: In conversation with UECC CEO Glenn Edvardsen about LNG powered ships
In the latest episode of The Maritime Podcast Seatrade Maritime News Editor Marcus Hand sat down in conversation with UECC ceo Glenn Edvardsen to talk about the company’s experience in investing in LNG-powered vessels.
UECC, a joint venture between Wallenius Lines and NYK, has been a pioneer in the use of LNG-fuelled tonnage with two LNG-powered PCTCs currently in service and three LNG/battery hybrid PCTCs on order.
Speaking to the Maritime Podcast about the decision to order LNG-powered tonnage Edvardsen says: “We never saw it as taking a risk. We were pretty confident that LNG was the way forward at this point in time and made a decision.
“We never thought that LNG would be the ultimate fuel for the future but at that point, and still is the most environmentally friendly marine fuel there is out there. If we‘re going to move ahead we need to act now, there’s lot of talk about how we can reduce emissions but hardly anybody does anything, and we said it’s time for action rather than talking.”
