Barge strike causes hydrocarbon spill in Gulf of Mexico

Barge strike causes hydrocarbon spill in Gulf of Mexico
New York: A huge column of blazing LPG was seen 30 miles south of New Orleans after a barge carrying 2,215 barrels of crude oil struck a Chevron pipeline.

The captain of the tug suffered third-degree burns, however the rest of the crew were able to escape the tug unharmed. The contents of the barge were not compromised.

Chevron has since shut the pipeline and is re-routing products to avoid it. The USCG says the oil spill response organisation has so far deployed 6000 and 7000ft containment booms and several fast-response vessels.
