"The news now is that CSCL, together with its partner United Arab Shipping Co (UASC), is seeking to join the P3 network, bringing with them 10 of the world's latest and largest vessels," the South China Morning Post quoted a source as saying. "But I doubt if P3 will accept the approach as the pair has pretty different cultures and management styles," it added.
Analysts also believed it was unlikely the original P3 partners, Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) would be interested since the 10 megaships the potential new partners would add were not substantial and could prove more trouble than it was worth.
CSCL managing director Huang Xiaowen was quoted as denying the speculation and said the company had no plans to form any alliances at this stage.
