US-based Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) supplier Ecochlor has introduced what it calls the industry’s first BWTS compliance guarantee.

Included at no additional cost with the purchase of any Ecochlor BWTS, the EcoCare Compliance Guarantee ensures regulatory compliance with IMO, US Coast Guard (USCG) and individual US state standard. It also covers performance as regards treating ballast water for invasive species contamination, insuring against financial penalties of up to $1m in possible fines, port charges, delays and off-hire if ballast water properly treated using Ecochlor’s BWTS fails an invasive species test.

“The guarantee expresses our dedication and commitment to providing the very highest standards in support of our clients’ ballasting operations,” commented Ecochlor vp – sales & marketing John Morganti.

The Ecochlor BWTS uses a two-step process to treat ballast water – filtration followed by disinfection with chlorine dioxide.  The company recently won landmark orders to retrofit its systems to 55 Scorpio product tankers and 36 vessels belonging to lead Greek owner John Angelicoussis.
