Wickmann will bring over 30 years of experience in liner shipping to the new role and served as ceo of Maersk Line’s regional Asia arm MCC Transport in Singapore from 2008 to 2017.
“The liner shipping industry is a global network and therefore needs consistent regulatory treatment across the globe. That requires the industry to have a coordinated voice on regulatory matters. Tim Wickmann has extensive experience operating throughout Asia and we are glad to welcome him to the WSC staff as he takes the lead role for us in Asia,” said John Butler, president and ceo of WSC.
“He will develop the partnerships that we hope to build with local and regional shipping associations and establish relationships with governments and other interested stakeholders.”

The WSC joins a number of other industry bodies such as Intertanko and Bimco in choosing to locate its Asia office in Singapore. Andrew Tan, chief executive of the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said: “We are honoured that the World Shipping Council (WSC) has chosen to locate its Asian office in Singapore. We are committed to working with the industry to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead.”
A non-profit organisation the WSC represent around 90% of the container shipping sector by capacity.
