The start of operations were marked with the arrival of the CMA CGM 6,500 teu White Shark box ship on the Gulf of Mexico and Europe trade.
"This is a great day for the country, for Veracruz and for Hutchison Ports, the entire port community, importers and exporters deserved to have such a modern infrastructure as we have today”, Hutchison-Icave executive director for Mexico and Latin America Jorge Lecona says.
Lecona says that, besides being the newest infrastructure in Mexico’s entire port system, TEC Vera Cruz will be the most technologically advanced terminal where customers can count on block chain and artificial intelligence, among other advances. Hutchison-Icave has invested $450m in the new terminal.

Miguel Ángel Yánez Monroy, general director of the Port Administration Integral (API) Veracruz explains that the construction of the other four new terminals continues: liquids and hydrocarbons - which should be operating at the end of the year, agricultural bulk, minerals and general cargo.
The total area of the extension for the new port of Vera Cruz that includes ICAVE-TEC and the four specialised terminals is 1,113 hectares of which 626 ha are located on land and 487ha in water, doubling the size of the current port consisting of 554 ha land-sea.
