IBIA's new chairman seeks collaboration on off-spec bunkers
The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) is turning its attention on collaboration with all players in the bunker industry to tackle the issue of off-spec bunker fuels.

Jens Maul Jorgensen, the newly appointed chairman of IBIA for 2014/15 and director of bunkers at Oldendorff, pointed out that off-spec bunkers are a “serious problem” which the industry needs to get ti grips with.

“I'm a great believer in collaboration and only collaboration from all players in the bunker industry is going to bring an improvement to the situation,” Jorgensen said.

IBIA, which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year, is focusing its efforts on engaging with shipowners directly over the issue of bunker fuel quality.

Peter Hall, chief executive of IBIA, said: “IBIA is striving to improve bunker quality across the marine fuel supply chain and the appointment of the most senior bunker buyer for the world's biggest dry bulk shipping company [Oldendorff] as IBIA chairman shows that we are completely serious about this.”

Jorgensen replaces Simon Neo, executive director of Piroj International, who has completed his one year term in office.
