The vessel, capable of processing 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 280m cu ft of gas per day, will serve an area 300 km south of Rio de Janeiro, the Iracema Norte area of BM-S-11 block, where oil is contained in the pre-salt layer 5000 m beneath the seabed.
Construction will involve the conversion of a VLCC, which will be renamed FPSO Cicade de Itaguai MV26. Completion and commencement of operation is slated for 2015.
The project follows a similar agreement in the Iracena Sul area, in which the Companies invested through Cernambi Sul MV24 B.V The FPSO will be the fourth to be provided by Modec and Mitsui, and the third project of this type for MOL and the second for Marubeni.
