Maersk Line unable to take new bookings after cyber-attack
Following the Petya cyber-attack that hit Maersk Line on 27 June the company is unable to accept new bookings, while alliance partner MSC is offering its assistance.

While some of its IT systems and communications systems have been shut down Maersk said that immediate vessel operations would continue as planned including the majority of port calls.

“Access to most ports is not impacted, however some APM Terminals are affected and gates are closed,” it said. Issues have been reported at terminals in the US, Europe and Asia.

It said that cargo would be offloaded as planned and import cargo released to credit customers.

However, the line is unable to accept new cargo bookings.

“At the present time we are unfortunately unable to serve new quotes or accept future bookings. However we do greatly appreciate your patience and look forward to carrying your cargo as soon as it is practically possible,” Maersk said.

But the line is now able to accept bookings via booking platform INTTRA if the customer has an existing account. "Booking confirmation will take a little longer than usual but we are delighted to carry your cargo," Maersk said.

Meanwhile 2M alliance partner MSC said its systems were unaffected by the cyber-attack and was offering its support to Maersk.

“MSC offers its full support to Maersk Line at this time, and we are working together to find other means to transmit data between the two companies. This includes information such as vessel bayplans, load lists, and customs information,” MSC said in a statement.

“If necessary, the 2M partners are prepared to divert ships away from terminals which are not currently operating as a result of the attack. MSC operates 53 terminals around the world which are fully available to 2M vessels to load and unload cargo with minimal delay.”

Maersk meanwhile apologised for the difficulties it was having in communicating with its customers.

“Unfortunately due to the impact on our IT and communications systems we are limited in our ability to communicate with you. We will continue to email you when appropriate and will be updating our Social Media channels regularly, Maersk said.

Maersk is the world's largest container line with a 16.3% market share.
