NAT buys two secondhand suezmax tankers

NAT buys two secondhand suezmax tankers
Nordic American Tankers (NAT) has entered into an agreement to buy two secondhand suezmaxes at a purchase price of $36.5m each.

The 2005-built vessels are scheduled to be handed over to NAT by August this year.

"The acquisition represents a natural step in the further development of NAT. The company will seek to increase its dividened and earnings capacity through further expansion, when the time is right," New York-listed NAT said.

The acquisitions will be financed from the financial resources of the company, it added.

"The acquired vessels are essentially sister ships to other vessels in our current fleet. It is of significant importance to have more or less identical vessels in the fleet both from an operational and cost synergy point of view," the company explained.

Including the delivery of the current acquisitions, NAT will have a fleet of 22 suezmaxes.
