The vessels were built in Japan by Marubeni under a bilateral agreement at a cost of $312m and a carrying capacity of 720,000 barrels of crude oil and products each. They will cover shipments to Asia, said Venezuela’s mining and oil minister Rafael Ramírez. The vessels are named Yare, Tamanaco, Terepaima and Paramaconi.
PDVSA has 26 ships currently under construction, which will lead the state’s oil company to handle 40% of its business with its own fleet.
