Port of Açu is located in the south-east of Brazil close to the major markets of Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais.
The agreement promotes the development of a strategic relationship among the ports, contributing to the exchange of innovative technologies and cargo flows between them. Strengthening the relationship with Asian countries is part of the company's strategy to connect Brazil to ports that have the same characteristics as Açu.
"The partnership with the Port of Guangzhou, which is the 5th largest in the world, recognises the potential and differentials of Açu. We are a port-industry in operation, with capacity to receive large vessels and retro-area available for the installation of industries. Moreover, we have logistical efficiency to bring the main Brazilian production centres closer to the growing demands of China and other Asian countries,” said Tessa Major, Port of Açu, cco.

The signing ceremony, which counted on the presence of the Consul General of Brazil in Guangzhou, Pedro Murilo Ortega Terra, took place during the 31st World Ports Conference 2019 at the Guangzhou Convention Centre. The conference is held annually by IAPH (International Association of Ports and Harbors) and brings together representatives from port agencies around the world.
General cargo vessel BBC Amethyst anchored in Porto do Açu, Brazil, last week, becoming the first ship to transit from Antwerp to the Brazilian sea port.
The inaugural port call is a milestone for Port of Antwerp International and the local partners who have invested in Porto do Açu. Port of Antwerp International, a subsidiary of the Antwerp Port Authority is a shareholder of and long-term consultant to the Port of Açu since 2017.
