President Kennedy called in at Yokohama on Saturday. No you didn't read that wrongly nor have we invented a time machine – APL, historically American President Lines – has newly name a series of ships after American Presidents.

The containership President Kennedy celebrated her maiden call at the Port of Yokohama on Saturday as part of APL's Eagle Express 1 (EX1) service.Five other ships also named after US Presidents – the President FD Roosevelt; President Wilson; President Cleveland; President Truman; and President Eisenhower, will be calling at Yokohama on the weekly service.

“We are thrilled to have U.S. President-named ships to once again call Japan where APL started serving 151 years ago, almost two decades years after APL was founded in 1848. These vessels join some 90 APL ships that were named after U.S. Presidents, continuing a legacy that began in the 1920s,” said Uchida Hideki, APL cluster director, Northeast Asia.
