SapuraKencana gets a headstart on Petrobras PLSV contracts
SapuraKencana Petroleum has had a good start in Brazil, launchiing its first pipe-laying support vessel (PLSV) for state-run Petrobras off Brazil, more than three months ahead of schedule.

The company expects these new operations to start contributing to the group’s revenue soon. Its new PLSV, Sapura Diamante started work last week, well ahead of the contractual delivery date. “This is a milestone for us as it signals the start of SapuraKencana’s PLSV operations in Brazil, our single biggest foreign market,” SapuraKencana president and group ceo Shahril Shamsuddin said in a statement.

Petrobras contracts make up a substantial portion of SapuraKencana’s order book, which stands at around MYR28 bn ($8.8n).Sapura Diamante, built by IHC Merwede in Rotterdam, is the first of six vessels contracted by Petrobras.

The second vessel, Sapura Topazio, was recently launched in Rotterdam and is being fitted for work with expected entry into service by the end of this year. The remaining vessels are under construction. Sapura Onix is expected to go into service in the middle of next year while Sapura Jade, Sapura Esmeralda and Sapura Rubi are set to be delivered progressively in 2016.
