The shipowner had just one capesize vessel in its fleet, prior to announcing the purchase of five capesizes and two supramaxes from an undisclosed seller. The company will now have fleet of eight vessels with a combined capacity of 1.1m dwt and an average age of 7.1 years.
Seanergy plans to trade the vessels on the spot market.
“We are very pleased to announce a transformational transaction for Seanergy that significantly increases our fleet size from one to eight vessels, exceeding 1.1m dwt of combined cargo-carrying capacity,” said Stamatis Tsantanis, chairman and ceo of Seanergy.
“We also believe that the timing of this acquisition is optimal given the positive long term fundamentals of the dry bulk sector and, in particular, of the capesize segment.
