Vard bags $4.4m design contract for icebreaking vessel
OSV ship designer and builder Vard Holdings has bagged a contract to design one Antarctic icebreaking vessel for the Chilean Navy.

The vessel, worth approximately EUR4m ($4.4m), will be delivered in 2021.

The contract was awarded to Vard Marine by Asmar Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Company to design the Antarctic icebreaking vessel.

The contract requires Vard Marine to develop the basic design of the ship for construction at the Asmar shipyard in Talcahuano, Chile.

The vessel will be used to carry a range of containerised and vehicle cargo, helicopters and rescue boats, as well as to undertake scientific data gathering activities.
