Selected with the design’s high cargo capacity in mind, the vessel will participate in subsea construction operations for Tidewater subsidiary Norwegian Troms Offshore Supply Group, with a 150t active-heave-compensated crane and helicopter deck.
The vessel will be ice-strengthened to DNV ICE 1A standard, with a toughened hull and propeller, as well as ensuring safety and operability at low temperatures to DNV’s DEICE notation specifications. Equipped with three Wärtsilä 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 26 engines with propulsion systems, a ballast water management system, and inert gas generators, delivery of the vessel is slated for 2016.
"Once again, Wärtsilä Ship Design's deep understanding of the complexities involved in operating in the harshest climatic conditions, and its ability to produce a design that fully meets the customer's expectations has been rewarded with a significant order,” says Riku-Pekka Hägg, vp of Ship Design, Wärtsilä Ship Power. “Wärtsilä's total solution capability, combining a strong and efficient design with fuel saving propulsion, is increasingly important in the market for ice class vessels.”
