WWL to limit sulphur emissions to less than 0.1% at all ports worldwide
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) is moving to further reduce its environmental footprint mandating that its vessels operate with less than 0.1% sulphur in all ports across the globe.

While ports in the EU and North America are covered by low sulphur emissions control areas (ECAs) WWL said 49 out of 79 of its main trading ports are not in such areas. Of the ports the company calls occasionally 23 out of 24 lie outside ECA zones.

The sulphur emissions not only impact at the environment but also human health. The switch to less 0.1% low sulphur fuel while in port will be achieved either by burning marine gas oil (MGO) or fitting scrubbers on its vessels.

“Human life is worth the same everywhere. If WWL can follow a less 0.1% sulphur limit at berth in one part of the world, we can adhere to the same in all ports. This way, we can significantly reduce WWL’s impact on human health and environment where it matters the most,” said Anna Larsson, WWL’s global head of sustainability.
