Zurich: Swiss power and automation technology group ABB has signed contracts worth more than $110 million to supply 19 new vessels - a large number of which will be built in Asia - with its Azipod propulsion, power-generation and power-distribution systems.
The vessels to be equipped include a 153,000 cubic meter Liquefied Natural Gas ship from Korea-based Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction, a semi-submersible drilling rig from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, a jackup rig and three drill ships to be built in Singapore and Korea and nine platform supply vessels to be built at Chinese and Norwegian shipyards.
Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB's process automation division said, "We are very pleased with the continuing strength of the marine construction market." [11/04/07]
