ABS approves CNG carrier design

ABS approves CNG carrier design

Houston: American classification society ABS has given full design approval for the class of compressed natural gas (CNG) carrier designed and developed by Canadian-based Sea NG Corporation. The design uses a proprietary Coselle system for storing and transporting CNG in small diameter high-strength steel pipe that is coiled into a carousel to store the high-pressure natural gas. The vessels will be 120m in length and have the capacity to carry 50m standard cubic feet of gas in 16 Coselles totalling 160 miles of pipe. Once constructed and classed by ABS they will carry the 'A1 CGN Carrier' notation. Sea NG is expected to award contracts for three Coselle CNG carriers later this year. Japanese trading house Marubeni Corp is a key backer of the Canadian company's pioneering technology.  [25/09/06]
