Hanoi: The American Bureau of Shipping will supervise the construction of three 104,000-tonne oil tankers at Dung Quat Shipyard, in Dung Quat Economic Zone, says the shipyard's deputy director Dinh Tien Dung. Dung Quat Shipyard has signed a co-operation contract with the American Bureau of Shipping. Under the contract, the shipyard will pay US$400,000 to ABS for supervision of the three ships' construction, the largest ships yet to be built in the nascent shipbuilding Vietnamese sector. Dung Quat Shipyard plans to start construction later this month. The ship will be 247 metres long, 46 metres wide and 20 metres high. As planned, the first ship will be completed in the middle of 2008 and will be handed over to PetroVietnam to supply Dung Quat Oil Refinery. [05/10/06]
