PureSOx, which has been operational for 10,000 hours in open and closed loop configurations, has been demonstrated to reduce the sulphur quotient from heavy fuel oil exhaust gas to below0.1%, exceeding the IMO’s sulphur 2020 target of 0.5%.
With the new orders, the number of DFDS vessels either fitted or to be retrofitted with PureSOx is brought up to 12, and the technology will enable all of these vessels to run cheap HFO rather than expensive low-sulphur MDO or limited-availability LNG.
‘We believe hybrid scrubbers are among the most efficient alternatives to using expensive low-sulphur fuel oil,’ said DFDS vice president Kasper Moos. ‘Based on our previous experience, PureSOx has proven to be a reliable and efficient retrofit solution.’
Meanwhile Alfa Laval’s ballast water treatment systems PureBallast and smaller-footprint version PureBallast 3.0 will be among other company systems on display at Marintec China this year.
