Angelicoussis' Maran Tankers inks scrubber and ballast water system deal with Sembcorp Marine

Angelicoussis' Maran Tankers has inked an order for 13 scrubber retrofits and four ballast water management systems at Sembcorp Marine.

The orders by the prominent Greek shipowner represent the largest green shipping order to date for the Singapore yard group. Under the contract Sembcorp Marine will fits scrubbers and ballast water systems to four suezmax tankers from Maran and scrubbers to nine very large crude carriers (VLCCs). The work will be carried on between Q3 this year and February 2020. The ballast water management systems will be supplied by Ecochlor, which has inked a deal for 36 systems with the Greek shipowner.

Maran Tankers said: “Sembcorp Marine Repairs & Upgrades was selected to be our partner for scrubber and ballast water management system installations as they have demonstrated the ability to work in tandem with us right from the project’s initial phase, showing dedication and commitment to resolve challenges as a team.”

Angelicoussis Shipping Group's move to fit scrubbers has been seen as a key factor in many other owners looking at it as an option to meet the requirements of the 2020 sulphur cap.
