The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said the containership NYK Themis hit the barge AZ Fuzhou at East Keppel Fairway at about 4km south of Marina South on Thursday at 0410 hours local time.
The barge was being towed by tug AZ Carnation at the time.
“NYK Themis reported that one of her bunker tankers sustained damage, resulting in some spillage of bunker fuel,” MPA said.
The port authority added that four MPA crafts were dispatched to deal with the oil spill, and oil spill response companies were also activated to support the clean up efforts.
The two vessels involved in the collision are anchored and in stable condition, MPA said, adding that there is no report of injury and port operations remain unaffected.
Yesterday, a Hong Kong-flagged chemical tanker and a China-flagged containership also collided in Singapore waters, leading to bunker fuel spillage which has been contained.
